Ex-Chicago schools CEO gets 4 1/2-year prison term for taking bribes

Barbara Byrd-Bennett

Former Chicago Schools Superintendent Barbara Byrd-Bennett pleaded guilty in 2015 to taking part in a contract-rigging scheme, and is sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison.  In her capacity as superintendent, she steered millions of dollars in consulting contracts to her former employer, SUPES Academy, a company consisting of former school administrators.  This sort of corruption is undoubtedly rampant in America’s public school systems.
