Trump’s budget boosts funding for school choice. So why are some charter school chiefs unhappy about it?
Let’s be clear. The CEOs of the handful of charter school management companies that criticized President Trump’s proposed education budget do not represent all charter schools. They may very well represent their own companies and the foundations that bankroll their operations. But they don’t speak for the vast majority of charters and ed reformers. The charter school community is ideologically diverse. Their political opposition to President Trump and Secretary DeVos is the real source of their criticism, and the federal budget was merely a reason to express that opposition. Political theater.
